Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at McGinnis, Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Fitzgerald was born Aug. 7, 1914, in Ava, Mo., to Walter H. and Stella E. (Lakey) Fitzgerald. He married Lois Maggard in Pansy, Mo., on Jan. 18, 1936.
He, his wife and family lived in rural Ava for 20 years, raising and milking cows on the family farm. In 1957, they moved to Bettendorf where he worked as a welder and mechanic at J.I. Case Co. until retiring in 1968. Following his retirement, until he was 80 years old, he was a well-known handyman, providing home repairs to numerous area families and friends.
He loved his family and enjoyed feeding squirrels and birds at their home.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Robert Anderson, Port Byron, Ill., and Dorothy and Richard Kimmel, Bettendorf; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Kim Fitzgerald, Princeton, Iowa; Jerry Fitzgerald, Davenport; and Kenneth and Alice Fitzgerald, LeClaire, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Vonice Rose, Bonnie Williams, Nola Gifford, and Erma Lee Lupton, all of Ava; Zona Fitzgerald and Stella Fitzgerald, both of Seymour, Mo.; Genevieve Wallace, Davenport, and Doris Woods, Lebanon, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Merman and Emra.
