Corporal William F. Moore served during the Civil War with the 71st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He first served with Company M. After the Peninsula Campaign of 1862, he was transferred to Company E. William served with the 71st PVI until it was mustered out on July 2nd. At that time, he was transferred to Company A, 69th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry to serve out the remainder of his enlistment.
