Mrs. Amanda S. Affeldt, one of the community's pioneer residents who came here 68 years ago, died suddenly Friday afternoon at Memorial hospital after a brief illness. She was 79 years of age.
Mrs. Affeldt, who made her home in Story, came to Wyoming in 1883 with her parents, four brothers and four sisters, traveling by train to Custer Junction from her birth place in Kloten, Wis.
The family traveled overland the rest of the way and homesteaded on Piney near Fort Phil Kearney. Afte her marriage to William F. Affeldt, June 1, 1891, the couple lived on Little Piney where the present day TAT ranch is located. They sold the property in 1915 and moved to Kearney. Fourteen years later, they moved to Story to make their home. Mr. Affeldt died Arpil 14, 1948.
Mrs. Affeldt was born Feb. 12, 1872 in Kloten, Wis. She was a member of the Cloud's Peak Rebekah lodge No. 14 in Big Horn, the Story Woman's club, and the Johnson-Sheridan County Pioneer association.
She is survived by a son, Carl A. Affeldt of Sheridan; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Menning, Long Beach, and Mrs. Jennie McLaughlin, also of Long Beach, and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. from Champion's with the Rev. C. W. Lawton officiating. Burial will be in Quiet Rest cemetery at Kearney.
