Mrs. Persis Jane (Brown) Leavens, 66 of 77 Richards St., Kopple, Pa., died Feb. 28 in the Ellwood City General Hospital after an illness lasting several years. She was born in Rimersburg, April 9, 1892 the daughter of the late Mark and Clara (Whiteford) Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Leavens who died Dec. 11, 1953. Surviving are two sons; Warren of East Brady and Walter J. of Kopple; three daughters; Mrs. Velma Stefura of Kopple, Mrs. Mildred Hooks of Ellwood City, and Mrs. Dorothy Schaffer of Kopple; one sister, Mrs. Viola Smith of Adrian; 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She has resided in Kopple the last 15 years, having moved there from Cowansville. Friends will be received at the Turner funeral home in Ellwood City from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Monday morning, March 2 with the Rev. Robert J. Magee, pastor of the Free Methodist Church of Ellwood City, officiating. Interment will be made in the Cowansville cemetery.
