One of the really busy men around Mac-Hi is Fred Etling, who has conducted the Mac-Hi band 12 years. Fred has a group of 40 members in his band, besides another 25 in a high school symphony orchestra. Both band and orchestra put on annual concerts and in between times lend a hand to any of the program entertainment needs of the school and community.
Besides the high school groups which Fred Etling works with, he has some 100 grade school pupils from the first grade up, under his care. Etling has no idle moments which school is in session in Milton-Freewater. Walla Walla Union Bulletin, February 23, 1947
