CHESTERTON, Ind.--Rutherford Hayes Fisher, 71, well known Chesterton resident, died at 1:03 a.m. Sunday at his home in Chesterton. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage.
The decedent was born in Fountain City, Ind., July 1, 1876, a son of Ellis N. Fisher and Abigail Fisher. Before moving to Chesterton 29 years ago, he lived in Kouts. He was a retired flanger at the Inland Steel company, Inland Harbor.
On April 8, 1896, he was united in marriage at Kouts to Catherine Tilton, who survives together with one sister, Mrs. Bertha Lamb, LaGrange, Ill., and one niece, Mrs. Nellie Arnold, Kouts, Ind.
He was a member of the Methodist church of Chesterton, the Blue lodge, Shrine lodge and Consistory of the Chesterton Masonic lodge. He was a past master of the Chesterton Masonic lodge and past patron of the Chesterton Eastern Stars.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. DST Tuesday at the Chesterton Methodist church with the Rev. F. Ross Shannon officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery, west of Kouts, with Kosanke Brothers of Kouts in charge .
Friends may call at the Flynn-Lundberg funeral home from 7 o'clock this evening and until 11 a.m. Tuesday. The body will then be taken to the church where it will lie in state until time of the services. The casket will not be opened after the service.
