U.S. Congressman. While working in the printing business, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1888 and engaged in the practice of law in Maysville, Kentucky. He served as the district chairman of the Democratic executive committee, was the Maysville City Attorney and as the master in chancery of the Mason County Circuit Court. In 1901, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-seventh and Fifty-eighth Congresses, serving until 1905. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1912. He also was vice president of the Burley Tobacco Growers' Cooperation Association and was president of the Kentucky Bankers' Association, until his death.
