Elsie Mae Hoover was born near Mount Carroll, ILL in 1872 where she spent her first 19 years. She married Lawson J. Tenley of Carroll County, IL on December 13, 1891. To this union were born nine children: Esther (died in infancy), Hattie, Clarence, Ruth, Nellie, Paul (died 7-29-09), Dalay, Della, and Alice. The first six years of her married life were spent in Carroll County, IL. In 1897 they moved to Cando, N. Dakota where they remained until 1904. In that year they moved to the vicinity of Stanwood, Iowa. Her death was sudden and unexpected. While visiting friends in Savanna, IL about January 1, 1911 she contracted a severe cold which turned to La Grippe and brought about her death on January 6, 1911 at the age of 38 years, 8 months, and 10 days. She was a member of the "Church of the Brethren". Her funeral was held in their home, Stanwood, Iowa on January 8, 1911 at 1:30 PM, Elder John Zuck officiating. Burial was at Red Oak Cemetery, Tipton, Iowa.
