Mildred L. Bailey, 81, of Aurora passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2005 peacefully at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born February 24, 1924 in Vicksburg, MS. She was united in marriage to Joseph T. Bailey, Sr. in 1944. Mildred and family relocated to Aurora, IL in 1952 where she joined the Main Street Baptist Church. In 1963, Mildred was instrumental in establishing Progressive Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the Women's League of Christian Service and various church auxiliaries.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T. Bailey, Sr.; and her parents, John and Ollie Thomas; two sisters, Elizabeth Carson and Annie Lee Clemments; and a brother, Willie Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her memory eight children, Joseph T. Jr. (Jean), Dorothy, Clementine, Marilyn (Gary), Willie F. (Maryann), Melvin H. (Mariam), Gwedolyn, and Diane; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and many, many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2005 at Progressive Baptist Church. Pastor Roy Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation and wake services will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the church.
