Second Lieutenant Dobson, ASN O-743944, was the co-pilot of U.S. Army Air Corps AT-11 Kansan #41-9480 and one of four airmen killed when the Beechcraft trainer bomber collided mid air with another AT-11, twelve miles southwest of Silver Lake, in San Bernardino County, CA.

The crews were on training flights from the Victorville Army Airfield.

The other three airmen killed were:

2nd Lt. William S Barnes
Sgt. John A Lowry
Sgt. William E Thomas
