The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth mourn the loss of Sister Mary Rosenda Arkfeld, 84, who died on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013 at Ross Hall, Mother House, Leavenworth, Kan.
Agnes Teresa Arkfeld was born on April 21, 1929 in Battle Creek, Nebraska, one of nine children of Rupert and Rose Hughes Arkfeld. She graduated from Battle Creek Grade School and Battle Creek High School. She attended Saint Mary College in Leavenworth, Kan., before entering the religious community of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth on August 18, 1949. As Sister Mary Rosenda, she made her profession of vows on August 15, 1951. Sister taught in elementary parochial schools across the West and Midwest. She received a B.S. in Education from Saint Mary College.
After a 42 year teaching career, Sister Mary Rosenda volunteered at Exempla-Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colo., as a receptionist at Mullen Hall, and at the Russell Pavilion in the Emergency Room, Radiation Oncology and at the Information desk.
Survivors include her sister, Mary Wacker, Omaha, Neb.; sister-in-law, Mary Clare Arkfeld, Denver, Colo.; nieces, nephews, friends, and her SCL Community.
