Entered into eternal rest in Elk Grove on September 10, 2005, at age 88. She was born in Waldenburg, AR, on June 24, 1917, to Press and Esther Smith Finley. Her brother, John Cornelius Finley, preceded Betty in death. She is survived by four sisters, Rachel Johnson of Modesto, Esther Stipanuk of Arkansas, Dorothy Jeffcott (Robert) of Utah and Hilda Hastings of Arkansas. Betty leaves three children, Janet Westbrook (Harold) and Dorothy Weichart, both of Washington, and John E. Bennett (Cheryl) of California. She was loving grandmother to five grandchildren, Hal, Steve, Stacey, Donald and Wayne, loving great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren and loving aunt to several nieces and nephews. An Elk Grove resident since 1959, she was raised in Arkansas. Betty moved to Modesto as a young woman where she met and married her husband, John Bennett, and started a family. Later she moved to Elk Grove where she worked as a clerk for Aerojet until its closure. She then worked as a clerk with Blue Diamond Almond Growers until she retired. Betty was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening and traveling to visit her family. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18, from 12:00-5:00 PM at SOUTH EAST LAWN MEMORIAL PARK AND MORTUARY, 9189 E. Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove. Family and friends are welcome to attend a graveside ceremony on Sept. 19, at 11:00 AM at this same location.
