NEWPORT NEWS - Dorothy Dee Baxter LeHew, 93, entered into rest on Thursday, May 19, 2005. She was born in Harlowe, N.C., and was raised in North Carolina and Colonial Heights, Va. She has resided in Newport News since 1938. She married Lynn Edward LeHew on Feb. 16, 1936, in Williamsburg, Va. She was a homemaker, and had also worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Riverside Hospital for several years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Newport News, and had been active in the United Methodist Women there. She had been a member of the Newport News Women's Club, and was an active volunteer in several organizations, including Habitat For Humanity, and as a reading tutor at Riverside Elementary. She loved gardening, and spending time with her girlfriends. She was recently a resident at The Chesapeake retirement community. She is survived by her loving husband, Lynn E. LeHew; her daughter, Carolynn LeHew Leccese of Rochester, N.Y.; her daughter and son-in-law, Jane LeHew Johnson and Ronald S. Johnson of Newport News; her grandchildren, Dana Dee Leccese, Anthony (Debbie) Leccese, Andrew Leccese and Mason K. (Shannon) Johnson; a great-granddaughter, Sofia Leccese; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today in Riverside-Altmeyer Funeral Home, 7415 River Road, Newport News. A funeral service will be conducted at noon on Monday May 23, in Riverside-Altmeyer Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Sam McPhail with burial following in Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News. In memory of Dorothy, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 228 29th St., Newport News, VA.
