Burton was born March 1, 1915, to Edwin and Vernico (Barton) Hatch in Heber City, Utah. He was a mechanical engineer with General Electric, retiring in 1975. He was a former bishop for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Blue Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers.
His survivors include his wife, Fern M. Hatch of the home; seven children and their spouses, Edwin B. and Joy Hatch, West Bend, Wis., Wendell C. and Penny Hatch, Ibapah, Utah, William D. and Linda Hatch, Tracy, Calif., Stephen M. and Mette Hatch, Blue Springs, Seila H. and Detlef Lehnardt, Liberty, Mo., Linda H. and John Glazier, Bluffdale, Utah, and Lohrea H. and John Petti, Boise, Idaho; one brother, Calvin S. Hatch and wife, JeNeal, Salt Lake City, Utah; 37 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1416 S.W. 19th St., Blue Springs. Burial will be Saturday at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, Salt Lake City. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
