Louis P. Herbold, a Retired Farmer, Died Tuesday Morning
Louis P. Herbold, retired farmer, of 580 Twelfth Street, Marion, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 9:25 a.m. at a Cedar Rapids hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Herbold was born at Muscatine, August 27, 1857, the son of Christopher and Christena Schuman Herbold, and on Oct. 21, 1885, was married to Winnie E. Edgerton, of Riverton, who survives, together with seven of their nine sons. The living children are Charles A., of Des Moines; Victor P., of Beachland, Mont.; Louis F. of Marion; Russel A., of Des Moines; Willie E., of Grass Range, Mont.; Walter C., of Great Falls, Mont., and Fulton S., of Valies, Mont. Another son, Harry A., died in Denver February 2, 1943, and one son, John, died in infancy.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Sophie Carrier, of Newton, and Mrs. Minnie Armstrong, San Gabriel, Calif., and one brother, Amos Herbold, of Newton. Twenty-three grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. Two grandsons are in Australia, and one is in England, serving in the armed forces.
Mr. Herbold has been deaf since birth. Most of his life was spent on a farm near Newton. After selling the Newton farm, he was similarly engaged for a few years at Benchland, Mont., and came to Marion in 1934. He was a member of the Marion Methodist church.
Funeral services were to be held from the Yocom chapel Thursday afternoon, with Dr. A. W. Henke, Methodist minister, in charge, and Ruth L. Williams, interpreter. The bearers will be J. C. Miller, N. J. Kost, Jason Seaman and Earl Weichman. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial park.
