George L Ecker

George L Ecker, age 80, of Stockbridge, died on August 28, 2012, with his family by his side. He was born on June 21, 1932 in Stockbridge, Wis., son of the late George & Veronica (Wieseckel) Ecker. He married Diane Popp on June 7, 1958 at the Holy Trinity Church at Jericho. George completed courses at UW Green Bay, Marian College, Marquette University, and studied music at St. Norbert College. He was the organist and choir director at St. Mary of the Seven Dolors Church in Stockbridge for more than 63 years. George was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Stockbridge where he founded the St. Mary's Men's Choir. He served as the St. Mary's parish Religious Ed Director and Instructor for a number of years. George also served as a Green Bay Diocese Pastoral Council Member. He wrote and directed the musicals, "The Stockbridge Follies", "Vaudeville", and the Christmas shows presented in Appleton and Fond du Lac. He also recorded a Gospel Music CD with Darrell Mader. He served as the accountant at Karl's Hardware, Stockbridge, served as the Exec. VP-General Manager at Horst Distributing, Chilton, was a Wisconsin registered insurance agent, and was a certified business course instructor at Fox Valley Tech for 30 years. George operated ECKER PROFESSIONAL SERVICES, his business consultant company. George served as the Stockbridge Village Clerk/Treasurer for 10 years and was the Stockbridge Community Historical Society chairman since 1975. He was the co-author of The Lori Popp Story and The Stockbridge Story. He served at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Appleton, as a volunteer patient counselor. He also was a volunteer drug abuse/alcohol abuse and marriage counselor. Survivors include his wife Diane, sons Kevin (Madonna) and Terence (Traci), Stockbridge, daughters Terese (Donald) Lintner, New Holstein, and Karen (Robert) Landwehr, Hartland. 13 grandchildren, Julia (Nick) Stenz, Melissa (Joe) Yatzeck, Justin Lintner, Melanie (Shawn) Thiel, Malorie Ecker, Andy Ecker, Nick Lintner, Adam, Alex and Alan Ecker, Isaac Lintner, Eric and Ellie Landwehr. Eight great grand-children, many nieces and nephews and his brothers James (Eunice) Ecker and John (Lillian) Ecker, Stockbridge. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 6:00 PM on Friday, August 31, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge with the Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 2:00 PM until 5:30 PM on Friday, August 31, 2012.
