Arthur J. Barco Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH
On Friday, June 17, 2005, Arthur James "Kayo" Barco Jr., born Dec. 7, 1936, passed away at his home after a brief struggle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Grace Britt Barco and Arthur James Barco. Kayo, 68, is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty Griggs Barco; his daughters, Lynn Britt Barco of Richmond, Va., and Susan Gwynn Barco of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by his sister, JoAnne Barco Dougherty and her husband Daniel T. Dougherty; and brother, Terry Leon Barco and his wife JoAnne Barco; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Kayo was a lifelong resident of Virginia Beach, working as a young man in his father’s business, Barco Marine Railway and later with his wife’s family in W. Jennings Griggs Sales Inc. For the past 13 years, he shared the family business with his nephew, Daniel T. Dougherty Jr. who will carry on in his absence. Kayo lived his life with quiet grace and compassion and was a good friend to everyone who knew him well. He loved gardening, fishing, golf and natural history. Kayo regretted not having time to tell all of his family and friends goodbye and also wished to thank the nurses and his primary care physician, Dr. Krista Dobbie at Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital and Sentara Hospice for the care and compassion shown to him and his family. A graveside service will be held in his honor at the Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery Tuesday at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Program. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.
