Kizzie was born to David & Mahulda (Mary) (Young) Fillingim/Fillingham (later Cowan) in Newton County, AR on the eve of the Civil War. She married the Civil War veteran John S. Goodnight (son of Nancy Rebecca & David Goodnight from Van Buren County) at the age of 14 and raised John's daughter, Mazy Ann, from a previous marriage with Nancy Vallines.

Kizzie bore John four additional children: James W., Alexander, Joseph F., and John W. After the elder John's death and burial in Beechwood Cemetery in 1885, Kizzie married Alfred J. Keeton and bore him two children; George Britt and Walsie.

Kizzie and her first husband were counted twice on the census of 1870; once living next to her in-laws across the state line in Taney County, MO and again in Newton County, AR. She's buried by her second husband, Alfred with her first husband, John, buried nearby in Beechwood Cemetery.
