She was born in Madison County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Joseph Maupin and Mary Witt Terrill; and a beloved wife to her late husband, William Bigelow Stoddart.
Mrs. Stoddart attended Madison County schools and Mont Verde Academy of Lake County, Florida. She moved to Detroit, Michigan, to live with one of her sisters where she met her husband.
She grew up in Kingston, Kentucky, and after moving away enjoyed visiting the Terrill Farm for family reunions and visits with friends. She loved music, learning to play piano and guitar as a child and later to play the organ. Singing popular music and hymns in church brought a smile to her face. She enjoyed sharing in worship and church fellowships and potlucks. Golf was one of her interests, she won a few trophies while she was able to play and later watched tournaments on television with her family. At her home she kept small flocks of song birds well-fed and treasured the companionship of dogs and cats.
Martha is survived by: her sons, William Christopher Terrill Stoddart and Jefferson Donald Stoddart; and grandsons, William Trevor Blake, Darren Wade Stoddart and wife Tracey Wooden Stoddart, and Jeffrey William Stoddart.
She is also survived by a great-granddaughter, Isabella Camden Clair Stoddart, and by many wonderful nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Gordon M. Terrill and Jefferson Cox Terrill, and seven sisters, Ann Terrill Azbill, Tommie Terrill Carman, Josephine Terrill Izlar, Sue Terrill Hayes, Nancy Terrill Dunn, Mary Terrill Amster and June Terrill Broadrick.
Visitation will be from 1–2 p.m. July 24 at Oldham Roberts Powell funeral home. The memorial service for Martha Stoddart will follow with Cecil Dunn officiating. Burial will be at Richmond Cemetery.
