Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Clara C. Sternberg, 91, a resident of Bettendorf, formerly of Davenport will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1923 Fillmore Street, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. The family will greet friends Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. All are invited to join the family at 6:30 p.m. to pray the rosary to close the visitation. Clara died Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf.
Clara Christine Martens was born August 15, 1921 in Davenport, Iowa a daughter of Henry and Louisa (Dreesen) Martens. She was united in marriage to Robert E. Sternberg on May 1, 1946 in Davenport. He preceded her in death March 9, 1978.
Clara was a member for many years at Holy Family Catholic Church. Mrs. Sternberg had been employed as a receptionist at Dr. Hulting, DDS, and the former Mercy Hospital. Clara loved to watch the birds, was a very good seamstress, and enjoyed gardening especially tending to her flowers. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family
Memorials may be made to the Davenport Fire Department in memory of her late husband a past firefighter.
She is survived by her 3 daughters and son-in-laws; Jackie (Roy) Rogers, Davenport, Patsy (Tim) Mosier, Blue Grass, and Marianne (Brendan) Sherman, Galesburg, IL; grandchildren, R.J. Sternberg, of Oklahoma, Michele (Jacob) Acri, East Moline, IL, Carolyn (Tony) Meyer, Kleen, TX, Candy (Samuel) Stramara, Watertown, WI, Heather (Justin) Wohlers, Davenport, Matthew (Amy) Mosier, Minneapolis, MN, Kelley Sherman, Davenport, and Melanie Walde, Muscatine; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Clara was preceded in death by her parents, a son Robert, a daughter Lisa, and 7 siblings. May they rest in peace.
