Resident of El Sobrante
Sadly we report the passing of Patricia N. Barkas of El Sobrante. Pat was a longtime resident of the West County. Born at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley to Ralph and Florence Nelson, and sister to Christina, Pat attended Albany schools and subsequently U.C. Davis and U.C. Berkeley. Pat had an abiding passion for many media of art and produced many and varied works. She competed in numerous local art competitions, and received many awards.
Pat's professional career was with (the then) Pacific Telephone, where she excelled as a Copy Service Artist for the Yellow Pages and subsequently to Yellow Pages advertisement sales and management. In sales she was honored once as the single best telephone sales representative in the State of California. Pat retired in 2000, but continued with her artwork.
Pat was well travelled, visiting Europe several times, New Zealand and Australia and many other warm tropical destinations.
Pat is survived by her husband, Victor Barkas, and their two dogs, Chelsey and Charlie of El Sobrante. Pat did not have children, but her life was filled with numerous, cherished friends, relatives and pets. She was active in various animal rescue and service dog organizations and many other charities.
A memorial service for Pat is planned on an, as yet, unannounced date in the near future.
