Deceased Name: Milta (Coppi) Garavalia
ROYALTON -- Milta (Coppi) Garavalia, 92, of 300 N. Dean St., Royalton, died at 8:25 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2004, in Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.

Milta was born Oct. 23, 1911, in Modena, Italy, to Carlo and Ester (Gianni) Coppi. She married Jesse Garavalia Dec. 31, 1938, in the United Methodist Church in Royalton. He preceded her in death Feb. 27, 2001.

Milta was a member of the Royalton United Methodist Church. She was a member and past trustee of the Royalton Library Board and a member of the Retired Teacher's Association of Illinois. She was an avid reader of good literature and loved working cross word puzzles.

Milta received her teacher's certificate from Southern Illinois Normal University in 1929. She was a retired elementary school teacher having taught for 35 years in the Zeigler-Royalton school district. She loved the pupils she taught and was always interested in their lives.

She is survived by two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Ervin and Marie Coppi of Royalton, Bruno and Sophie Coppi of Decatur, Ala., and Nancy Coppi of Morgantown, Ind.; four nephews, Richard and Judy Garavalia of Milwaukee, Wis., Jan and Debbie Coppi of Valrico, Fla., Mark and Julia Coppi of Greenwood, Ind., and Troy Coppi of Washington, D.C.; and three nieces, Rose Marie and Ken Coburn of Highland Park, Candy and John Holsclaw of Decatur, Ala., and Carla Coppi of Carbondale.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, Abramo Coppi, and a brother, Tony Coppi.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in the United Methodist Church in Royalton, with the Rev. James Heaney officiating. Cemetery east of Royalton. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in Vantrease Funeral Home in Royalton and after 9 a.m. Tuesday in the church. There will be a brief family remembrance of Milta at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Garavalia may be made to the Royalton United Methodist Church, the Royalton Library or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
