After an illness of many months with hardening of the arteries Joseph W. Elliott died yesterday afternoon at his home east of Stockwell. He was born in Caroline county, Maryland, October 6, 1831, and moved with his family to White county, where he resided until the outbreak of the civil war. He served three years in the union army and then located in this county, where he had since made his home. Mr. Elliott was a member of the M. E. church and was a man of splendid character. He died rich in the esteem of all who knew him. The widow and three children, Deborah, Anna and William, all of Stockwell, survive. The body was prepared for burial at the Baker undertaking parlors and funeral services will be held at the residence Monday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. O. P. Paxton will officiate, with interment at Stockwell cemetery.
