Policeman Loses a Leg.

The right leg of Patrolman Peter Green was amputated above the knee at the city hospital Monday afternoon. The patient was doing well and will recover from the operation.

Green is a colored man and quite large. Seven weeks ago, with Officer McFadden, he gave chase to a chicken thief named Howard, on Eighteenth street near Lydia avenue. During the chase, Officer Green ruptured an artery in his leg. Every effort was made to save the leg, but amputation was finally necessary to save his life.
