79 of Cynthiana died Wednesday June 12, 2013 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
He was born in Harrison Co., KY April 8, 1934 a son of the late Harry and Irene Crofford Nelson.
Joe was a member and past elder of the Unity Christian Church, an Honorably discharged Air Force Veteran having served his country during the Korean Conflict, he was a farmer, retired from Bullard and was a former school bus driver.
He was preceded in death by his wife Shelby Jean Williams Nelson, and a granddaughter Mary Beth Anness.
Survivors include his son Bobby Joe (Amy) Nelson, 2 daughters Jeanie (James) Anness, Connie (Jeffrey) Barnes, a brother Charles (Harriet) Nelson, Ohio, 3 nieces Charlotte Frost, Julie Osley and Lisa (Eddie) Feeback, 11 grandchildren, Scott Nelson, Jessica (Trent) Harris, Joey (Darla) Nelson, Leslie (Zach) Ewalt, Laura (Sean) Espinola, David Barnes, Rachel Barnes, Ben Anness, Jacob Barnes, Olivia Nelson, Emma Nelson and 11 great grandchildren, Abby Wedding, Ryan Anness, Ross Nelson, Sara Ewalt, Clay Nelson, Makayla Nelson, Logan Harris, Ethan Ewalt, Kiptyn Espinola, Lorelei Nelson and Alayna Nelson.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday June 17, 2013 at the Unity Christian Church, officiated by Rev. Merrill Mitchell and Rev. Neil Holmes. Burial will follow the service in the Battle Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-8 PM Sunday at the Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home, and after 10:00 AM Monday at the church.
