Barbara M. (Gibbons) Daly, 67, of West Dennis, MA, and formerly of West Hartford and Springfield, MA, died Saturday, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, MA, after a brief illness. She was the wife of Francis "Frank" J. Daly.
Born in Holyoke, MA, Mrs. Daly was raised in Springfield, MA; and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Springfield, MA. She graduated with honors from the College of Mount St. Vincent in New York and received her master's degree in education from St. Joseph College in West Hartford.
Mrs. Daly was a high school teacher in Hartford for over 20 years. She retired in 1994. She lived in Springfield, MA for 30 years, and then in West Hartford for 34 years, before moving to West Dennis, MA in 1998. She was also a winter resident of Naples, FL. Mrs. Daly was an avid reader.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Daly is survived by a son, John Daly and his wife, Susan of Newington; two daughters, Carolyn Russell of West Springfield, MA, and Martha Bauman and her husband, James of Westbury; a daughter-in-law, Caroline Daly of West Hartford; four sisters, Ann Kenney of Timonium, MD, Maty Lou Gibbons of Springfield, MA, Elizabeth Flanagan of West Springfield, MA, and Katherine Kirby of Middletown; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, James Daly.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11am Wed, Nov. 28, in St. Pius X Church, Station Ave, South Yarmouth, MA. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery, Yarmouthport, MA. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Nov. 27, 7-9pm in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave, South Yarmouth, MA.
