Thomas Oliver "Tucker" McCoy, 62, of Portsmouth, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the SOMC Hospice Center. He was born Feb.13, 1948 in Portsmouth to the late Oliver Krible and Katherine Deloris Born McCoy.

Thom was a retired firefighter from the city of Portsmouth, serving from 1972 to 1996, a Roman Catholic and a Vietnam War Army veteran where he earned the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion, I.A.A.F. Local 512, a 1967 graduate of PHS, and had attended the former Ohio University Portsmouth for two years.

Surviving Thom are three sons; Shane Thomas McCoy, Christopher Brian McCoy and Jesse Michael McCoy, all of Portsmouth; one daughter, Heather Marie (Dale Thornton) McCoy of Wheelersburg; two brothers, Daniel A. (Pam) McCoy of Lucasville, Eugene K. (Belinda) McCoy of Huntington, WV; one sister, Carolyn "Susie" Fisher of Columbus; and three grandchildren, Christopher B. McCoy, Andrea K. Thomas, Arianna K. Thomas; and his former wife, Sabra S. Gustafson McCoy of Portsmouth. Thom is also survived by two best friends, Buddy and Diggi, his dogs.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 A.M. at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with the Rev. Peter Michael officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 A.M. until the funeral hour at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, due to Thom's great love of animals, the family wishes to have memorials sent to Sierra's Haven, 80 Easter Drive, Portsmouth, Ohio. Military rites will be conducted by James Dickey Post American Legion and "The Last Alarm" rites will be conducted by members of the Portsmouth Fire Department.

In honor of Thomas' military service to his country, the flag of the U.S. Army will be flown at the funeral home on Saturday.
