His plane was believed to have been hit by enemy air strike. His status was changed to killed in action on August 19,1954. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
