Rosary for Helen Bednarz, 88, of Slaton will be at 7 p.m. today in Englunds Chapel with Darris Linder officiating.

Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Nicolas Rendon officiating.

Burial will be in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

She died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002.

She was born March 4, 1914, in Scotland, Texas, and moved from there to the Slaton area in 1923. She attended St. Joseph Parochial School. She married Alvin A. Bednarz on Nov. 4, 1935, in Slaton. He died Aug. 7, 1981. She also had lived in Pep and Lorenzo.

She was an organizer of the Pep Sausage Festival. She had worked in the cafeteria systems of Mercy Hospital and Lorenzo Independent School District. She was a member of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, St. Joseph Catholic Daughters, the Altar Society and the Four Seasons.

Survivors include four sons, Royce of Arlington, Donald and Wayne, both of Lubbock, and Kenneth of Ropesville; two daughters, Mary Etta Ehler of Lubbock and Shirley Moerbe of Rockdale; a sister, Elizabeth Kitten of Slaton; 20 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 205 S. 19th St., Slaton, TX 79364 or Mercy Retreat Center, 1225 W. Division, Slaton, TX 79364.
