Soldier, Drummer, Military Recruiter, Terrorism Victim.  He was the British soldier murdered on a busy public street in London's Woolwich area by radical Islamic terrorists in the spring of 2013. A gunner and drummer in the 2nd Sussex Regiment, he had served in Cyprus, Germany, and Afghanistan before becoming a recruiter and assisting with duties in the Tower of London. He is remembered as a dedicated and professional soldier and was a real character within the Second Fusiliers. Larger than life, he was at the heart of the Regiment's Corps of Drums. An experienced and talented side drummer and machine gunner, he was a true warrior and served with distinction in Afghanistan, Germany and Cyprus. On the day of his death, he was was off duty and walking near the Royal Artillery Barracks when he was intentionally driven into by a car, before being dragged into the road and attacked with knives and a cleaver, in an attempt to decapitate him.  He died of multiple cut and stab wounds.  The perpetrators dragged his body into the road and told passers-by that they had killed a soldier to avenge the killing of muslims by the British Armed Forces.  The killers were later found guilty of his murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.  His funeral in Bury Parish Church was attended by several thousand mourners, including the British Prime Minister David Cameron and then-Mayor of London Boris Johnson.  He has since been honoured by memorials and the Lee Rigby Foundation, which is set up as a memorial to his memory and to all victims of terrorism. He may not have sought fame or glory in his life but his death is still is mourned by millions.
