US Congressman. Born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, as a teenager he was a confidential rider for George Washington during the Whiskey Rebellion. As a young adult he moved to Zanesville, Ohio where he began a local newspaper and became the State printer. He was elected to represent Ohio in United States House of Representatives in a special election to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of Congressman-elect John C. Wright. He served from 1821 to 1823.
