Stanley R. Barber

OXFORD — Stanley R. Barber, 83, of Sidney, passed away Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.

He was born June 7, 1918, son of the late Rufus and Wanita Irish Barber in Whitehall.

Stanley graduated from Whitehall High School in 1936 and attended State Teachers College of Oneonta.

He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Stanley married Ruth Ellis on Feb. 20, 1944, in Oneonta. She predeceased him on June 25, 1997.

Mr. Barber was employed as a tool inspector for E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney. He retired after 41 years.

Mr. Barber was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sidney for 46 years, serving as a deacon for 40 years. He was a past Sunday school teacher and member of the choir. Mr. Barber was a prayer warrior, holding prayer services during lunch at work.

He was also an avid bowler and was secretary of his league.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Jerry Broe of Oneonta; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Margaret Barber of Corning; sister-in-law, Betty Barber of Whitehall; good friends, Robert and Betty Hunt of Sidney; and several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Wallace and Earl, predeceased him.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at the First Baptist Church of Sidney at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David Fraher officiating.

Visitation will precede the service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Sidney.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.
