Mr. Allmon was born March 29, 1938, in Poseyville, Indiana. He was the first of three children of Roy and Alma Kern Allmon.
At 17, Mr. Allmon enlisted in the Air Force serving in several states as well as in Japan and Goose Bay Labrador Canada during 20 years of active duty. He entered the Civil Service as a Safety Officer in 1975, and retired in 1995, ending his 40-year career with the Air Force.
In 1962, Bill married the former Ella Stevens in Carson City, Nevada. Together they raised two sons, Joseph and James, and a daughter, Julie.
During his retirement, Mr. Allmon devoted his time and energy to the care, rescue, and rehabilitation of animals as well as several birds. He was often seen at local animal auctions and was affectionately known around the area as "Mr. Bill." He was always happiest surrounded by his own personal menagerie on his small farm in Somerville. One of the high points of his life was last August whe he had all his children and grandchildren together at his home where he introduced his grandkids to his extended pet family. He has helped to instill his love and respect for all animals in the next generation of close kin.
Mr. Allmon was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Emily Ann Mitchell.
He is survived by two sisters, as well as his three children and their spouses. In addition he leaves seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at 6 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Scotty Hogan officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to service at the funeral home. Gravesite service and interment will be Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo.
