Lauritz Fred Wheeler, age 85 of Grand Rapids, MN died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Evergreen Terrace in Grand Rapids.
Fred was born in 1927 to Albert and Nettie Wheeler in South Dakota. Fred was a member of the US Army and after an honorable discharge from the military he began delivering mail for the Swatara and Hill City communities. He later joined Cone Construction of Grand Rapids and eventually retired as foreman after many years of service. He was a longtime member of the Legion and Eagles Clubs.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his sisters, Sylvia Burke, Goldie Dagle, Bessie Wagner, Alberta Namchek; his brother Dave Wheeler; his daughter, Sharon Aplanalp; and his grandchildren Natalie and Casey Aplanalp.
Fred is survived by his daughter, Sandy Winkleblack; son, Glen Wheeler; brothers, Albert "Lyle" Wheeler and Jack Wheeler .
Visitation will be Friday, February 15th from 12 noon until the 1 p.m. Funeral Service at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, MN. Rev. Marva Jean Hutchens will officiate. Burial will be in Hill Lake Cemetery in Hill City, MN.
