John Preston Glasscock, the son of Chaffin and Lucinda "Nash" Glasscock, was born in Marion County, Kentucky November 18, 1847. At age 14 John Preston lied about his age and joined the Union Army to fight in the Civil War. Like many other families the Glasscock loyalties were divided during this time. Many Glasscocks even changed the spelling of their names due to the bitterness created by the Civil War. English ancestors spelled it with only one "s" but later another "s" was added. After the Civil War he married Margaret Ellen Wright. They had ten children. In 1875 they moved from Kentucky to Pilot Point, Denton County, Texas where he was sheriff for 17 years. Lured by the great land opportunity they moved to Oldham County by covered wagon in 1892. Upon arriving in the Panhandle they lived in a dugout until their house could be built. John Preston homesteaded Section 40 (containing 640 acres more or less), Block K-6, GB & CNG RR Survey, Oldham County, Texas, where he and his family lived and pastured a herd of cattle. He was Oldham County Commissioner, Precinct #3, from 1903-1904. When the time was right he sold out and moved to Cordell, Oklahoma where he and Margaret Ellen lived until their deaths.

As a great grandson of Peter Glasscoke (1714-1784) John Preston Glasscock's descendants are entitled to membership in the Sons or Daughters of the American Revolution (SAR/DAR) and other patriotic organizations.

Additional children note:
Edna Pearl Glasscock (1886-____)
