Moses Beaman was born on July 7, 1812, in Granby, Connecticut to parents Moses Barnum Beaman and Nancy Swena Beaman.

Moses Beaman married Susan Swena on August 29, 1837 in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. Together they had four children; Mary Beaman Gilbert in 1838, Susan Beaman Tutcher in 1841, Caroline Beaman Knight in 1845, and Arthur Beaman in 1847. Susan died in 1886.

Moses Beaman moved to Buffalo Township, Illinois in 1838.

In 1849, Moses Beaman sailed around South America and Cape Horn, Chile while traveling to California to participate in the Gold Rush.

Moses Beaman moved to Appanoose Township, Kansas near the Santa Fe Trail in 1857.

Moses Beaman served in the United States Army in 1864, during the American Civil War, participating in the Battle of Byram's Ford in Jackson County, Missouri.

Moses Beaman moved to Marion Township, Kansas in 1865, where he worked as a farmer.

Moses Beaman died at the age of 74 in Marion Township, Kansas, on June 7, 1887.
