Albert was employed in his father's hardware store and continued to work there after it was sold to George Gilbert in 1895. Albert resigned that position in 1903 to start a tinning business. According to Wert & Schlegel, Albert was never employed in the tap and die business and his brothers did not want him involved. In 1925 he sold his shares in the company (including those he inherited from his brother John) in exchange for a lifetime pension and a new home. He married Laura Hain Oct 14, 1881. They had four children, two of whom survived as adults, Muriel b 1882 and Olive b 1883.
