Mary Ann Albrecht, age 77 of Gainesville, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at her residence following an extended illness. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, March 8, 2013 at 11:00 am at The Church of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Cumming Georgia with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Father Frank Richardson will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 9 pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Albrecht was born September 8, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois to the late George Mortimer and Margaret Ann Shubert Mortimer. She was retired from Cobb County Board of Education and was a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Mary Ann was the first Principal of Dowell Elementary School, Marietta, Georgia. She attended Mercy High School, Chicago, Illinois, St. Xavier's College, Chicago, Illinois, West Georgia College, Carrollton, Georgia, where she obtained a Masters Degree in Education. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward Mortimer. Mrs. Albrecht is survived by her husband, Edward J. Albrecht of Gainesville, daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Randy Griggs of Woodstock, Georgia, daughter, Laura Albrecht of Panama City, Florida, daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Mike Chatham of Braselton, son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Becky Albrecht of Gainesville, grandchildren, Jordan and Brittany Griggs, Allison Griggs, Ashlyn Chatham and Logan Chatham, sister, Georgia K. Wanda of Midlothian, Illinois and brother, Joseph Mortimer of Orlando Park, Illinois. Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Road, Gainesville, GA 30504 is in charge of arrangements.
