STOCKING, GEORGE EDWARD, 89, of Louisville, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013.

Born April 23, 1923 in Sacramento, CA, he will be remembered by his family and friends for his love, Christian values, integrity, hard work, and humility. He was often heard saying "accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative." He was an active member and deacon of Beechwood Baptist Church. He served as a Gideon for many years, and was on the Foundation Board of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He worked at General Electric for over 40 years where the majority of his career was spent as an engineering manager. He was a World War II Army veteran who served with the 104th Infantry Division in Europe. He was awarded two Purple Hearts. He held a degree in engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of almost 60 years, the former Thelma Evans; daughters, Lois Ehlers (Chris) and Ruth Stocking; son, John Stocking (Pam); and his grandchildren, Lauren and Tyler Stocking.

The funeral service will be at Beechwood Baptist Church, 201 Biltmore Road at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with burial in Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, from 3-7 p.m. Monday.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in his memory to Gideons International, Beechwood Baptist Church, or Salvation Army.
