Phyllis M. Burden, of Summerville, SC, passed away March 12, 2013.

The oldest of 6 children, she was born in Colorado, the daughter of Sevedeo and Junita Lujan. Born with multiple health impediments, in a time and place when birth defects were considered to be a curse, she left the ranch she grew up on; and walked away on crippled legs, with compromised lungs to find a new life for herself.

Her journey would come to include; attending college, learning to drive, getting married and ministering to many. Her faith and tenacity allowed her to overcome adversity, raise a family, and be a superior example of success through ethical perseverance and solid beliefs.

Phyllis was a strong, wise and wonderful woman who touched, inspired and motivated all those who encountered her (or at the very least got their attention).

She is survived by her brother Ray Lujan (Retired) of California; her four children, Gil Burden (Veteran U.S. Navy /U.S Army Reserve, Nurse, Umass - Harvard Student) of New England, Mike Burden (Finance Director) of New England, Alan Burden (Stock Analyst-Trader) of New England, and Felice Burden-Bergholt (Mother and homemaker) of Florida; grandkids, great-grandkids, and family including: Karen Burden, Gillian Burden, Christopher Burden, Jeremy Harley, Brad King, Jason Harley, Chelsea King, Jessica King-Carrigan, Debbie Burden-Bolander, Tammy Olson-Burden, Samantha Harwood, Taylor Harwood as well as the many (too numerous to mention) friends and fellow believers in God.

Visitation for Phyllis will take place March 20, 2013, from 10:00AM - 12:00PM, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, North Charleston. Funeral and religious services will take place at the church following visitation at 12:00noon. Phyllis will be laid to rest at Dorchester Memorial Gardens in Summerville.
