Charles Edward Gavin, 68, of Tacoma, Wash., formerly of Cheyenne, died Tuesday at Tacoma. He was a retired conductor for the Union Pacific. Gavin had worked for the railroad in Cheyenne from 1927 until 1972.
He was born at Little Rock, Ark.
Gavin was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie Alice Gavin [nee David], and a daughter, Margaret Shultz [nee Gavin].
He is survived by his wife, Agnes Byers Gavin, whom he married in 1965; two sons, William E. Gavin and James R. Gavin of Concord, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Webb of San Diego and Mrs. Mildred Verstraeten of Concord, Calif.
Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday and funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Sidney, Neb. Burial also will be at Sidney.
