Sammie Bell Boyd Elam

Sammie Bell Boyd Elam, 80, of Waldron, Arkansas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 30, 2007, at Sparks Hospital in Ft. Smith, AR. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Packsaddle Community Church since 1949 and a member of the Scott County Extension Homemaker's Club for over 50 years.

She was born on September 2, 1926, in Hatch, New Mexico. She spent most of her early years in Vera, TX. She was married to James P. Elam on October 29, 1944, in Vera. TX. Sammie was active on the Scott County Fair Board for many years and was known to win ribbons each year in the fair. She also won many awards at the district and state fairs.

The funeral service was held at the Packsaddle Community Church at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2007. Following the church service the graveside service was held at the Freedom Community Cemetery. The pallbearers were Mark Garcia. Barney McGehee, Ryan Doerr, Matt Hunsucker, James Cope, Alvin Carnahan, Steve Hattabaugh and George Griggs, honorary pallbearer.

The funeral service was conducted by Bro. Don Wagner and Bro. Herman Woodard and directed by Martin Funeral Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Easter Boyd and her sister, Evelyn Koch of San Bernardino, CA.

She is survived by her husband, James P. Elam of Waldron, AR; her sister, Janie McGaughy of Lubbock, TX; two daughters, Sherian Dyson of Waldron, AR and Philis Cook of Brownsville, TX; five grandchildren, Rebecca Cope of Waldron. AR, Terry Cook of Harrison, AR, Kristy Blankenship of Heavener, OK, Tonya McGehee of Brownsville, TX; and Tammy Yanez of Seattle, WA.

She had eight great-grandchildren, Ryan Doerr of Ozark, AR, Taren Cook and Tylr McGehee of Brownsville, TX, Emily, Christian and Ethan Cook of Harrison, AR and Amanda Phillips and Kelly Woodral of Heavener, OK. She had one great great grandchild, Bryar Phillips of Heavener, OK.


Sammie's Father was Samuel B. Boyd b. Aug 23 1872 TX d. Dec 12 1931 Eureka, Navarro, TX, buried at Eureka, Navarro, TX.
