A memorial service celebrating the life of Susan Flaschenriem, 55 of Watkins, MN, formerly of Seattle, WA will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in St. Nicholas, MN. Susan passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer.

Fr. Thomas Olson and Fr. Richard Gross will officiate. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Friday, June 8, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins and will continue one hour prior to the service at Church on Saturday. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Susan was born on September 20, 1956 in St. Cloud, MN to Wilfred and Jean (Vouk) Flaschenriem. She resided on the west coast for the last 30 years, which included Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. She worked as an administrative assistant and was a much loved and valued employee of Wells Fargo.

She was a writer as well as a playwright, with one of her plays performed at the Mae West Fest for Women Playwrights. She also performed in live action and radio plays. Susan loved to travel, traveling yearly to the Shakespeare Festival in Oregon, as well as Europe in 2006. Susan loved her cats, creative writing, theater, thunderstorms, reading, blogging and free lance reporting, including a published piece on the L.A. riots of 1992.

Survivors include her father and step-mother, Wilfred and Ardella Flaschenriem of Watkins; brother and sisters and their spouses Deb and John Magedanz of Eden Valley, David Flaschenriem of Boston, MA, Linda and Tom Faber of Watkins, Karen and Bob Sermon of Ramsey; step brothers and step sister and their spouses, Roger and Mary Ann Lutgen of Mpls., Allen Lutgen of Watkins, Shirley Lutgen of St. Cloud, Ken and Betty Lutgen of Watkins, Jim and Anita Lutgen of Crystal; nieces , nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Susan was preceded in death by her mother, Jean (Vouk) Flaschenriem.
