Eugene served as a Sergeant, Company L, 115th Infantry, 29th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Somerset County, Maryland and was a member of the Maryland National Guard prior to the war.

His National Guard unit was called into full time active Army service on February 3, 1941, prior to the war, from Crisfield, Maryland. He was noted, at that time, as being Single, without dependents.

Eugene was "Killed In Action" in France during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.
