John Fife, son of William and Elizabeth (McCormick) Fife, was born Feb.10, 1816. He had two sisters: Margaret (Thompson) and Rachel G (who died as an infant).

John married Mary P. Adams, daughter of Johnston and Jane (Patterson) Adams, Sept 26, 1837 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Bethel Twp, Allegheny County, PA. They raised 11 children: William James, Elizabeth Jane, Johnston Adams, John Calvin, Mary Lucinda, Thomas P., Ella Margaret, Sarah Claribel, Ada Asenath, Samuel Morgan and Alice Rebecca.

John lived his entire life in St. Clair Twp, Allegheny County, until he and Mary move to Canonsburg, Washington County sometime between 1870 and 1880. He was a farmer his entire life. John died on Jun 14, 1892 in Canonsburg, PA. He is buried in Bethel Cemetery with his wife, Mary, who died on Jan 29, 1898.
