Dean Malan

Eden – On Thursday, February 21, 2013, Alton Dean Malan left his family on earth to join his wife, Donnett and other family members in Heaven.

He was born September 9, 1927 in Eden, Utah to Alton and Martha Clarke Malan.

Dean attended Ogden City Schools, and while a teenager joined the U.S. Merchant Marines and served his country in the closing years of World War II.

On October 29, 1950 he married Donnett McKay and together they had 4 children: Michael (died in infancy), Debra (Eric) Bernkopf, Jeff (Sherry) Malan and Steven (Amy) Malan. He also had a daughter, Kathy Miller, by a previous marriage.

Throughout the years he worked for the railroad, DDO and Weber County Corrections. He loved fishing, hunting, metal detecting and motor homing with his family.

He leaves behind his children; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also one brother, Gerald (Pat) Malan; one sister, Launa (Jim) Lewis, and two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Stegen and Norma Hains.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the Eden Mountain View Cemetery.

Per Dean's wishes no funeral or viewing services will be held however family members are invited to meet at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, February 25th for a private family viewing.

Dean's family would like to thank his two physicians, Dr's Vincent Hansen and Alan Abdulla and their staffs for the great care they gave dad throughout the years. The family also expresses their deep appreciation to the doctor, nurses and CNA's of Hospice For Utah for their loving care of him during his final days. Special thanks to the wonderful members of the Eden 2nd Ward who provided food and comfort to dad this last year.
