Lydia Vecchi Aiello

Lydia Vecchi Aiello died on May 26, 2004. She was a native of California and Contra Costa County. Lydia was born October 15, 1920 in Pacheco to August Vecchi and Esther Lodi Vecchi, whose families immigrated from Italy at the turn of the last century. In 1940, after a five-year courtship, Lydia married Salvedor "Red" Aiello . She and Red were married for 57 years, living in Pacheco and Martinez, until his death in 1997. Lydia was a homemaker in its truest sense -- she delighted in making her home a loving place for her family and friends. She was renown among her family for her wonderful holiday feasts of turkey, raviolis, Italian cookies and canoles, and mince and apple pies. She was an expert seamstress, sewing suits and dresses as well as the draperies for her home and for her cabin near Yosemite. Lydia was the sister of Norman and Leonard Vecchi and Eldina Johnson -- all of whom predeceased her. She is survived by her two daughters, Marilyn and Louise Aiello of Martinez. Friends and family are invited to a Vigil at Connolly & Taylor Funeral Chapel, located at 4000 Alhambra Avenue in Martinez on Tuesday, June 1 at 6:30pm and to a Memorial Mass at St. Catherine's Catholic Church located at the corner of Ferry and Mellus Streets in Martinez at 1:30pm on Wednesday, June 2.
