Cantrell, Jean OCEANSIDE -- Jean Dunlap Cantrell died on February 8, 2013. She was born on August 23, 1927, the seventh of eight children born to Arkie Lee Carter and John X. Dunlap. She grew up in Rogue River, Ore., moving to California for her senior year of high school. Jean married her husband of 62 years, Guy N. Cantrell, in October 1947 in Los Angeles. After raising their two daughters, Jean attended MiraCosta College to brush up on her office skills. She was hired as the Administrative Secretary to the Dean of Arts and Sciences at MiraCosta in 1979, a position she held until 1987. Jean is survived by her daughters, Marilyn and Laura; son-in-law, Jerry Johnson; brother, David Dunlap; and many nieces and nephews. Her daughters wish to thank her friends and family, as well as the staff at Rancho Vista and Vista Gardens, for their loving care and support. There will be a private burial next to her husband at Riverside National Cemetery. No formal service is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the MiraCosta College Foundation for the Jean Cantrell Book Fund. Donations may be sent to the Foundation at One Barnard Drive, Oceanside, CA 92056.
