Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Annetta Hammond Pearce Foremaster, age 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at her son, . Garry's, home in St. George, Utah. Annetta was born May 1 , 1912, in New Harmony, Utah, to Orson and Melissa Duel Hammond. She attended school there in a small two-room schoolhouse, up to the eighth grade. She then moved to St. George to attend Dixie High School. She was married at age 18 in the St. George Temple to Nelson Jesse Pearce. Five years later, she was a widow with two small sons. "Those were hard years," she would say. She worked for $50.00 a month to support her littie boys through the worst years of the Great Depression. Several years later, she married Tone Foremaster, and they soon built the home where she has lived since 1945. When she married Tone, she became a true rancher's wife, spending many days at the homestead on the Arizona Strip. There she would ride, cook, and do just about anything needed to get the work done. She was always ready and willing to go whenever tone needed her. Tone died in 1984, and Annetta was alone again. However, throughout the years her home has been a loving place for many, many family and friends who have come to visit She has always loved people and has loved to work with them and help them. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she has been active and has served in many positions, to include: Relief Society President, Relief Society Counselor, Work Director, Visiting Teacher, and Primary Stake Board. She also was Secretary of the B.P.W. (Business and Professional Women) and President of the Washington County Cow Belles. In addition, she has been a dedicated and exquisite homemaker. For 12 years, she worked outside her home as a saleslady at Snow's Dress Shop. She loved crocheting and quilting. While serving as Work Director, the Relief Society sisters made many quilts, pillowcases, dishtowels, and all kinds of items to be sold at the ward bazaars. During that time, the Relief Society also fed the Lions Club members every week to help raise money to build a new chapel that is now the St. George 5th and 6th Ward Chapel on 85 S. 400 E. Annetta is survived by her: two sons, Orson Garry (D'On) Pearce and Douglas Nelson (Patty) Pearce, both of St. George, UT; 12 grandchildren; 43 greatgrandchildren; two great-greatgrandchildren; and sister, Helen (Myron) Jones. She is preceded in death by her: husbands, Nelson Jesse Pearce (died February 10, 1935) and Anthony "Tone" Foremaster (died December 5, 1984); two sisters, Estella Hammond Brown and Idona Hammond Truman; and two daughters-in-law, JoAnn Paxman Pearce and Sondra Stout Pearce. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 19, 2005, at 1 :00 p.m. at the St. George 6th Ward Chapel, 85 S. 400 E, St. George. There will be viewings Friday, February 18, 2005, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., prior to services, at the Chapel. Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery. Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, UT, (435) 6732454. The family wishes to give a special thanks to Annetta's care givers from Southern Utah Hospice, Cris Bell and Diana Green. We will be forever grateful to them. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Perpetual Education Fund through local wards and branches. Friends and family are invited to offer their condolences at www.spils-burymortuary.com.
