She was born Oct. 17, 1917, in Cuba, Ill., and was the daughter of Luther and Belle Salisbury Strode.
She was a member of Women of the Moose, E.S.A., Treasurer of Lydia Circle, C.W.F., Organist and Choir Director of the Oakwood Christian Church. Evelyn, as her friends called her, organized a group of women of the church to visit shut-ins and people in nursing homes. Mrs. Buxton was a retired secretary.
She was a warm, loving and caring person who loved flowers, birds, squirrels and other animals and spent much of her time watching them in the winter months.
She married Howard Eugene Buxton on Oct. 8, 1938 in Farmington, Illinois. He survives. Other survivors include: one brother, Morgan Bryant Strode of Charleston, Illinois; two sisters, Lena Louise Krider of West Lafayette, Indiana and Maxine Wright of Lewistown, Illinois.
Services will be held at the Oakwood Christian Church at 2 p.m. Monday, July 30 with the Rev. Herb Bottger officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign, Ill. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at the Johnson-Lakeside Funeral Chapel in Oakwood, Ill.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Oakwood Christian Church.
